The Bronx, New York (population approximately 1.455 million, 2015 Census estimate), is the only New York City borough located primarily on the U.S. mainland (rather than on an island). However, it does include several small islands situated in the East River and Long Island Sound. Officially, the borough does not use the word “The” and is known simply as “Bronx.”
